Roulette strategy

It is often heard that Roulette is the fairest game among the gambling games. Don't be fooled; Roulette is indeed one of the easiest casino games to learn, but as it is often the case; the easier the game is to learn, the higher are the chances of the house winning. And it is exactly like that with Roulette.

With a ball and a roulette wheel a number of 0 through 36 is hit. The probability for the ball to fall on a specific number is equally high with every number. Before the roulette wheel rotates you have to place your bet by placing your chips on those sections of the numeric series 0 through 36 on the table, on which you think the ball will fall. If the ball falls on one of the numbers you betted on, you are being paid back a multiple of your stakes (see quotas below).

American rules:

With the American rules the roulette wheel consists of 38 pockets numbered through by 1 to 36 including a 0 and a 00. Under these rules the expected payout is up to 94.74%. Below you will find the payoff quotas and the according probabilities for the drawing of the different sections.

Bet on Example Payoff quota Probability
Any number735:12,63%
5-number-combinationOnly 00-0-1-2-36:113.16%
6-number-combination25 through 305:115.79%
Even or odd number2,4,6....32,34,361:147.37%
1-18 or 19-361 through 181:147.37%
Red or blackAll red numbers1:147.37%

European rules:

European Roulette at Casino-Club
Playing Roulette with the European rules has in contrast to the American rules the advantage, that there is only a 0 and not a 00. Otherwise, the wheel consists as always of the pockets 1 through 36. One is achieving a payout of 97.3% with those rules. And there is another advantage. If you are betting on the simple chances (bets with payoff quotas of 1:1) and the ball is falling on 0, you're either being paid back half of your stakes (in the American version you had lost your stakes completely) or your bet is put "imprisoned". The wheel is being turned again and if the stakes put "imprisoned" is winning this time, one is getting it paid back.
Payoff quotas and probabilities in this version:

Bet on Example Payoff quota Probability
Any number735:12.7%
6-number-combination25 through 305:116.2%
Even or odd number2,4,6....32,34,361:148.6%
1-18 or 19-361 through 181:148.6%
Red or blackAll red numbers1:148.6%

Hint: In the European version only place bets on simple chances (which pays 1:1). Thereby, you are increasing your payout to 98.65% because of the "imprisoned" and 0 rule.

Winning systems:

Especially on the Internet there are countless winning systems for Roulette and you probably already came across phrases like "with this unique Roulette system Roulette pros manage to eliminate the dealer's advantage and to realize a big winning in the long run. And you can, too!" Here is the problem exactly: Achieving winnings on a long-term basis. This is an absurdity with gambling games. One might be lucky and achieve some nice gains for a short time, but in the long run the advantage of the house (0 or 0 and 00) unfortunately always prevails. Otherwise all casinos would go broke.

Roulette The oldest and probably most known winning system is the Martingale System. This system is not only applied with Roulette, but with all gambling games. It is all about doubling the wager after a lost bet and to go on with it until one wins again one bet. Then one starts over again and bets the same initial stakes. When doing so the player wins enough with the last bet to compensate the loss of the previous lost bets, and is achieving an additional gain amounting to the initial bet. In theory this might be a good system, but it often fails because the admitted wager in the particular casino/game is not endlessly high, or that the player suddenly has not enough money left to double the wagers again because he was underestimating the heights of the repeatedly doubled bets.
Example: After 9 lost rounds in a row with an initial bet of only 2€: 2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256-512-1024€. To place the last bet, the player has to have an account balance of 2046€ from the beginning (if it even is allowed at all to place such a big bet). After this row of risky bets the player won only 2€ in total. And just imagine he had lost even more bets...

The conclusion on the topic of winning systems must therefore be, that you are risking a lot of money to gain little, and that it just doesn't pay off to play with such systems in the long run.
